A global partner in quality control.

LGC Standards is the UK’s designated National Measurement Institute for chemical and bioanalytical measurements and an international leader in the laboratory services, measurement standards, reference materials, genomics and proficiency testing marketplaces.

They are one of the leading global producers and distributors of reference materials and proficiency testing schemes. LGC Standards has a network of dedicated sales offices extending across 20 countries in 5 continents and more than 30 years’ experience in the distribution of reference materials. These high-quality products and services are essential for accurate analytical measurement and quality control, ensuring sound decisions are made based on reliable data. With an unparalleled breadth of ISO Guide 34 accredited reference material production in facilities at 4 sites across the UK, the US and Germany.

The existing LGC Standards website had fallen way behind the times and no longer reflected the global leader in a positive light because of frustrating user experiences and the lack of responsive behaviours across mobile devices. A confusing UI and mixed information architecture needed to be overhauled for them to become the global market leaders online.

“I have to day how impressed I have been with Alex during this project. He showed that he has effective active listening skills, understanding my perspective on the challenges within the project, and coming up with simple tangible solutions to help us move forward. He manages meetings well in terms of acting as a connecting bridge between the digital experts and us lesser mortals in the room. I see great potential in him, and thoroughly enjoy working with him!”

Julia Kemp
Marketing Director – LGC Standards

Due to LGC spanning such a complex range of sectors and product types (all of which are purchased and configured in different ways), a large multidisciplinary team from business analysts, UX specialists, marketing teams through to technical and sales worked together in an agile process with the relevant skills and knowledge being pulled in at key points.

Designs were produced across three breakpoints in sprints which tackled individual stages along the user journey in order to ease and improve the customer experience. Liaising with all members of the internal and external teams the design phase was where most issues were raised and solved for this unique industry. Requirements to conform to AA accessibility standards and to ensure quality solutions result in LGC becoming industry leaders was the focus of the entire team.
